Jarek: Into the Jaws of Darkness, Round 04

The sounds of bones snapping and fleshing ripping echoded through the long passageway. I quickly drew out another set of arrows as I saw our dragon-born warrior collapse from the monsters' brutal onslaught.

Damn paladin! I cursed as Lloyd and Guy quickly rushed to Arao's side. The eladrin priest began another hymn of prayer to his elven god while the half elf threw a couple of deadly cuts on the sinspawn.

"Who the hell wanted us to go down here?" I shouted.

I was about to shoot my arrows when I noticed something moving up in the ceiling. I looked up and saw one of the sinspawns over me, looking down like a large hungry spider.

"Son of a dryad!" I howled, paniking. "They can stick on walls!"

The sinspawn was about to drop down towards me when I heard Gryffin's voice from behind me, chanting some sort of formula or incantation in elf-talk. Soft green lights began to surround the young wizard, forming into strange arcane symbols circling around his arms and hands. I felt the hair on my back and feet rise as Gryffin began to draw mystical energy from the air itself.

Gryffin ended his chant abruptly and the glowing symbols shot out of his fingers like emerald hornets, striking the sinspawn's chest. The creature gave a muffled shriek as its body exploded.

"Damn it Gryffin!" I cursed as one of the sinspawn's mishappen arms feel into my shoulder. "Can't you blow things up without splattering them on people?"

The wizard saw my expression and gave a chuckle. I'll get even with that prankster soon.

"Jarek!" the half-elf shouted as he slashed through the last surviving sinspawn. "Stop complaining and do your job!"

Stupid Lloyd, I thought to myself. Ordering people around like he's some sort of nobleman. One of these days, they'll all get what they deserve.

I raised my bow and pointed the arrows over the sinspawn's direction. The creature was too preoccupied lashing out at Lloyd to notice me. Too bad I didn't take up Tsuto's offer, things might have been different.

The sinspawn shrieked as one of my arrows struck its legs, ripping out a chuck of decomposing meat. I kept thinking about Tsuto and wondered how the half elf was doing right now.
