A Town on Fire

Jarek leads the group after the goblin which escaped and heads south of the festival grounds. As you near the source of the huge conflagration you see that a group of goblins has found the cart full of fuel for the bonfire and have lit it on fire. One of them is the goblin which escaped your group.

You are confronted with several cackling and shrieking goblins armed with dogslicers and torches. As soon as the goblins see you they shriek in delight and one of them run into one of the nearby buildings.

*

"That's the General Store." Gryffin shouts as he recognizes the building. "I just hope Ven and Solsta aren't still inside."

"They aren't." Lloyd shouts answers back. "I saw them at the festival grounds a while ago. Seems they were looking Katherine."

Gryffin nods and then pauses. "Is she the daughter who was always after Jarek?"

Jarek growls back. "No, it was the other daughter, Shayliss. And can we just drop it and concentrate at the task at hand?"

Both Gryffin and Lloyd give out a chuckle before following their friend.

*

There are 4 goblins in a tight little cluster by the door of the general shop. They are brandishing the torches in their left hands and seem to be planning to try and set you alight. They look drunk with glee.

There is suddenly a shout from inside the shop which causes the four goblins to run back in. A strange chant-like song could be heard from within but since no once knows goblin the only thing the group can pick up is that the song seems harsh to the ears.

OOC: The door to the general store is pretty small so I'd probably need a party formation from you guys before we start the next scene.

OOC: The locals know that Ven Vinder owns the General Store and that it is Sandpoint’s oldest and best-stocked general store has a little bit of everything—farm equipment, weapons, tack, tools, furniture, food, and even homemade pies by Ven’s wife Solsta. They also know that they Ven keeps a shocking supply of alcohol in his basement.

The store is pretty small (around 40 x 30). The locals know that there is only one door (which is now close) and a window (boarded up for the festival) up front. And another door at the back which serves as the store room door.

They also know that the Vinders do not live in the store but own the house adjacent to it.

1) the house isn't on fire, is it?
2) i can take the front if no one objects. i'll try to bash the door down.
3) i would need backup though, prolly a healer, once the door is open -- i expect a hail of javelins thrown my way.
4) would someone like to go around and see if the back door is open?
5) fyi i don't have any more lay-on-hands pala. low wis modifier wahehe.

don't forget to heal surge pala if you want to. also question, do we gain back the action point we used for last encounter?

while the party is making their formation, can i opt to go solo and climb to the shop's second floor?

i plan to go up and ambush the goblins from the top (fire arrows down at them), while the others attack them from the ground.

is this feasible?

or maybe i should try the back door?

ooc: we should storm the place all together. we can split the group. enter from the front, the back, and thru the windows. it has to be simultaneous. parang SWAT ^_^

maybe gain an element of surprise?
back up arao ..

No, the general store isn't on fire.

2) i can take the front if no one objects. i'll try to bash the door down.
the door does seem close. arao would need to do a STR check to open it.

3) i would need backup though, prolly a healer, once the door is open -- i expect a hail of javelins thrown my way.
lloyd and guy then?

4) would someone like to go around and see if the back door is open?
jarek has decided to go back. he'll be arriving just at the same time arao would be bashing the door.

5) fyi i don't have any more lay-on-hands pala. low wis modifier wahehe.
yup. that was reflected in your character sheet. he he.

the shop doesn't have a second floor. the back door might be a better idea.

so what will we do? sino leader? butiki, since u are the paladin, you take the lead. ;-)

Miguel Enrico Gonzales said...

OOC: there is a second floor window that Jarek may use. The climb would be easy with Jarek's climbing gear. He just needs to take 10 on the climb.

Once up there all attacks would cost 2 extra squares range. He'll have superior cover (-5 to enemy attacks). But any successful hit would force Jarek a DC 10 athletics check. Failure would cause a fall of 10 feet.

nope. an action point is regained during an extended rest. that's about min of 6 hours rest.

spoke to DM and Jarek. jarek will provide cover to the heroes from an elevated window.

guy backs up arao the leader.

rmacapobre said...

oops .. need to point out that guy needs his equipement .. will arrive late second round.. hehehe

I'll be sneaking up behind Guy...I guess I'll be on snipe mode as well.

How does hide work now anyway?

I guess I'll try to stay incognito behind Arao and Guy and reamin hidden at least until I fire off my first attack.

Miguel Enrico Gonzales said...

OOC: Hide works the same way as in 3e. Though the related skills now are Stealth vs Perception.

OOC: So i guess the line is: Arao, Guy, Gryffin then Lloyd.

i think jarek's misunderstanding something. the goblins are INSIDE the building. going to the 2nd floor isn't going to give u any sniper advantage coz there are no goblins outside! i really doubt the goblins will go out. the only thing u can do up there is: open the window, go back down the stairs and surprise them from the inside.

kelan ako naging leader? last time i read the phb, defender ang role ko. the pale-skinned pointy-eared Guy should be the leader. Or pede rin c lloyd 4 d DM connection wahehe

OOC: Jarek's climbing the wall coz he knows that there is a window at the upper part of the store. From there he can stand on the rafters and see/shoot whatever is inside. It's a very precarious position but he has agreed to taking that risk.

I really need to get rid of lloyd then before this happens. he he.
